Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #3 Review
Welcome back dear readers. Last time around, Lord Zedd and Braniac has joined forces and unleashed giant monsters in populated cities all over the globe. To deal with the threat, the Justice League and the Power Rangers agreed to join forces to neutralize the threat. However, even with the aide of five teenagers with attitude as and their giant dinosaur robots, the Justice league is still going to need some reinforcements. To that end, Cyborg uses the Watchtower communication systems to call in other DC heroes, including Sir Not Appearing in this Crossover himself, Aquaman. Nice to see you Aquaman, it’s not quite as good as being part of the main crossover, but it’s nice to know you haven’t been forgotten entirely. Unfortunately, Braniac shuts down communications before Cyborg can call anyone else.
Anywho, our heroes split up into small groups and fight off Zedd’s monsters. It’s a pretty nice scene and it’s cool to see the heroes working together, but it’s not long before Superman notices what’s really going on. It turns out these monsters are just a distraction to all Braniac’s drones to steal the Rangers morphers and take control of the Zords. Now that the villains have what their after, the monsters disappear as do the Zords, leaving the Rangers powerless as the villains are about to attack Angel Grove in their home dimension. Later, the Rangers, especially Zack who still blames himself for the whole thing, are pretty demoralized. Superman does his best to rally the troops as it were, but it’s kind of a moot point since the rangers have no way to get home. Billy thinks he has an idea as to how to fix their situation, provided the Justice League knows someone with a large hadron collider they can borrow. Fortunately, this is the Justice League we’re talking about. As many people as they’ve saved over the years, there’s bound to be a few people who owe them favors out. As such, some kind folks from a research facility in Switzerland happen to owe Superman a solid, and wouldn’t you know it, they have themselves a large Hadron Collider. And so our comic ends with the Rangers and the League putting their heads together to find a way back to Angel Grove.
What Works: I like the fight scenes. I feel that I don’t need to explain to you what’s so awesome about the Power Ragners and the Justice League fighting side-by-side against an army of wanna-be Cthulus.
I really like the part where Superman calls in a favor. It’s not something you think about often but there have to be a lot of people out there who owe Superman some favors. Obviously Supes is a nice guy and he doesn’t do what he does for the gratitude, but even a guy like Superman needs a favor now and then. Seeing Superman cash in on one of those favors humanizes him, which I like.
What Doesn’t: This comic feels really short and even though we get the big fight, it doesn’t feel like there was much story progression. For that matter, neither Zed nor Braniac appear in this comic at all.
Overall: 3.5/5
I liked this comic, but I feel it’s the weakest of the crossover so far. Still there’s a lot to like here, and I can’t wait for the next issue.
