Top 20 Dragon Ball Abridged Moments #14

I want to make it perfectly clear that I never said that this was a list of the funniest moments. Obviously many of the entries in the countdown are going to be comedic as Dragon Ball Abridged is first and foremost a parody series and that comes with the territory. However, not even a parody series can be all comedy all the time. Hell, it's that kind of thinking that gave us crap like Disaster Movie. As such, every now and again, Dragonball Abridged gives us some genuinely heartfelt and sometimes even touching moments.

14. But I like You

I don't know how obvious I've made it up to this point, but my favorite arc in the whole of the franchise from the original Dragon Ball all the way up to Super is the Android Saga of Dragonball Z. It followed up on the Red Ribbon arc from Dragon Ball, it gave us a phenomenal villain in Cell, it showed us that it was possible to ascend beyond the level of Super Saiyan, and it introduced a lot of likable new characters to the franchise. Many of the most heartwarming moments in the series, abridged or otherwise, revolve around one such character, Android 16. Initially seen as a large and imposing terminator like machine bent on killing Goku, 16, over the course of his travels with his "siblings" Androids 17 and 18, developed a deep love of the planet earth and the creatures that inhabit it, particularly, the birds. When Cell finally crosses paths with the Androids, 16 finally reveals his true strength and it turns out the big guy is quite a powerhouse, easily able to man handle Cell like he's nothing. When 16 says that he must destroy Cell or he will wreak havoc on the Earth, 17 points out that they were just going to do that anyway. In response, 16 acknowledges what 17 says, but lets it slide, because he's grown to care for him and 18.

I really love how TFS writes 16, 17 and 18. They feel a lot less like parodies and more like, for want of a better term, real people. Over time, you actually see them develop and grow as a family, and it's actually kind of sweet, and this moment is the best example of that development. However, next time, it's back to the comedy as Goku learns where babies come from... at the age of 30.
